The Slow Practice Collective

The Slow Practice Collective is co-founded by Luminara Florescu and Jules Allen.  Luminara is an interdisciplinary artist, researcher, artist mentor and builder of communities for the dis-belonging. Jules is a creative wellbeing practitioner, integrated counsellor, coach, and creative imaginator.

Jules and Luminara are both dis-abled, chronically ill, and neurodiverse artists/creatives.

The Slow Practice Collective grew from a need for agency. Our approach is not rooted in productivity or conventional notions of creation, but in a creative re-imagining of life itself — one shaped by curiosity, wonder, and the permission to dream. We seek to explore and embody a slower, more mindful way of living, and to share what we discover with others.

EVENTS

The Slow Practice Collective is our attempt to decondition ourselves from our own inner ableist beliefs and behaviours, and to bring together a community of artists who face barriers to the current art world and its capitalist, hyperproductive rhetoric.

This currently takes place through occasional pop-up online sessions throughout the year when we have an activity or conversation we think would benefit from a group interaction.

If you are an artist who identifies as dis-abled, chronically ill and/or neurodiverse and would like to join the Slow Practice sessions, have any question or would like to connect/collaborate, please contact Luminara via the Contact Page
