If We Were Truly Visible

In July 2024, I was selected as 'Image-Maker in Residence' at The Sociological Review Foundation. The residency was also supported by a CuratorSpace Artist Bursary.  'If We Were Truly Visible' is the film I made during my residency. My aim was to explore Self-Care from the perspective of individuals with hidden disabilities and neurodiversity reclaiming Self-Care from its commodification by capitalism and reframing it as a form of quiet but powerful protest.

The film focuses on capturing the everyday experiences of those with hidden disabilities while advocating for a society that actively supports the diverse needs of individuals with hidden disabilities. By challenging societal norms that contribute to marginalisation, the Self Care Scarfs become symbols of social resistance, enabling wearers to reclaim their agency and make visible that what is often invisible. Through illuminating the emotional experiences of individuals with hidden disabilities, the project fosters conversations on emotions, connection, and dismantling barriers.
